New set of Runes

Today I'm very excited because my new set of runes arrived. I'm a firm believer that magic doesn't have to cost money, and I feel like I could have made a set of ruins. But this set called to me, and I felt that I really wanted a set that was carved into moonstone. And today I have it!

The first thing that I do is I cut a small stick coming from a nut bearing tree into tiny pieces that I will carry in the bag that I keep my ruins in. As most of you know by now I am an odd number witch so I cut five little pieces because that's what the stem that I had easily worked into.

This practice comes from people making their runes from this type of wood. Nut bearing worked best for them. I keep wood with mine to tie myself back to those witches from generations before us. I now have my five little pieces of a stick coming from a nut bearing tree. If you don't have access to a nut bearing tree there's a few things that you can do. The easiest is to go to a grocery store and to buy a bag of nuts that still have the shells on it. The shell easily represents the wood part of the nut bearing tree. The second thing that you can do is to plan a trip to go somewhere where those trees are near you. But the grocery store is much easier. I just happen to have a horse chestnut tree in my yard.

So I have my ruins in my pouch and I have to keep them with me for the first 24 hours. That includes sleeping with them. This will allow them to feel me and for me to feel them and to create a bond that will help make readings clear and reliable. I keep them close to my heart (in my bra). If you don't wear a bra you can tie the pouch around your neck with a strong necklace chain, a strip of leather, a bandana, a shoelace, string, yarn... whatever you have around the house. At night you can keep them under your pillow or blanket.

When I was putting the ruins into the pouch one did jump/fall out. It was the rune Gebo, which is shaped like an X. The meaning is gifts and partnership. The partnership resonated with me so strongly because for the first time in the company that I work for I'm going to be creating partnerships with people who are also customers. I've been thinking of it for several years and I actually ran into somebody recently that I used to work with who is starting their own entrepreneurial adventure and we are going to start a partnership they will be my first. This is very exciting.

If you have runes already or if you've been thinking of making a set, this is a great time. The week before (and up to a week after) Halloween is perfect because it allows witches from the past to move towards us in the thin veil separating our worlds. They can offer their power to our runes and allow us to use them for the best reasons.
